FAQ

"Where do you engrave the stethoscope?"..."Where do names go?"(1)..."Where do images go?"(2)..."What do you call the part that goes on the chest?"(3)..."What do you mean by 'top' of the stethoscope head?"(4)..."Where's the 'base'(5)..."What's a 'dual-head' used for?"(6)

All graphic images can be selected in either large image size, or small image size.

"Single-sided" aka "single head" stethoscope heads
1

**(Shown above) (2) Large size U.S. flag graphic image is laser engraved on the (4) "top" of a single-sided stethoscope head. (1) Text name is normally engraved on the (5) "base": the outer circumference of the (3) stethoscope head (back side of sound-collecting area: the round area at the bottom of photo). Long names are marked between 4 oclock and 8 o'clock, short names between 5 - 7 o'clock, & monograms are marked at 6 o'clock. (Photographer can be seen reflected in mirror finish on (5) "base" of stethoscope head, and his camera is reflected on (4) "top" of Magna Fortis' Sonocardia TM cardiology stethoscope).

(Shown below) (1) Text message in Whimsical Curls font, plus small "White Heart" graphic image are laser engraved on (4) "top" of "single-sided" (3) stethoscope head on 3M-Littmann (TM) Master Cardioloy stethoscope. 2

"Dual-sided" aka "dual head" stethoscope heads 43

{Shown above: LEFT} Small size angel graphic image is laser engraved" in the "bell" aka "on the(4) "top" (Interior conical surface of "bell side") of a dual-sided(3) stethoscope head of Magna Fortis' Metacardia TM LT stethoscope .(1) Text name is engraved on the(5) "base" of the diaphragm-side (back of large, shallow sound-collecting area) in Old English font along the outer circumference of the (3) stethoscope head. {Shown above RIGHT} Large size angel graphic image is laser engraved on the(4) "top" (Interior conical surface of "bell side") of stethoscope head. (1)Text name is engraved in Brush font on the "base" of the diaphragm-side (back of large, shallow sound-collecting area) in Old English font. Magna Fortis Metacardia logo is engraved @10-11 o'clock.

Images are proportioned to the available engraving surface area. A single large graphic image, or multiple small images can be engraved on all agna Fortis models, and most other dual-sided (dual head) brands (except 3M-Littmann TMCardiology III model: see image below).

(6) Dual-sided (aka dual head) stethoscopes enable simultaneous amplification or attenuation of certain critical physiological sounds, by alternation between the two differently-shaped and differently-sized sound collecting areas. The "bell" side is not more or less suitable for pediatric use than the diaphragm side. A true high fidelity acoustic stethoscope obviates the need for a separate pediatric stethoscope in family practice, however certain psychological factors may dictate a preference for smaller stethoscope heads, rather than objective acoustic factors alone. The "diaphragm side" is generally more sensitive to respiratory sounds than the "bell side". High fidelity, dual-sided stethoscopes have greater sensitivity to all frequencies on both sides, than single-sided.

"What is a VSAVR?" and "Why does it make a stethoscope sound so much better?"

The Voluble Stethoscope Acoustic Vestibule Reflector™ is a new, patent-pending stethoscope periscopic device that works inside a multiple-head stethoscope sound chamber to correct the main problem inherent in all dual-head, or triple-head stethoscopes: instead of sound exiting the stethoscope head through the sound chamber (and continuing out of the stem, into the stethoscope tubing, up to the binaural headset, & finally reaches a stethoscope user's ears), the incoming sound wave bounces off the interior sound chamber wall opposite the sound chamber entry (vestibule), and the reflected sound wave travels back toward the sound entry. When the reflected sound wave meets the next incoming sound wave head-on: the waves cancel each other in their corresponding frequencies, and a great deal of sound wave energy is lost. This problem is termed: harmonic phase cancellation. Acoustic stethoscope performance is thus diminished in all makes, and models of multiple-head stethoscopes where such interaction between newly propagated sound waves, and reflected sound waves occurs. The VSAVR device preserves the sound quality, and conserves the sound wave energy of a multiple-head stethoscope by altering the stethoscope’s acoustic pathway, so that sound waves cannot reflect backward in the stethoscope head, and thereby VSAVR eliminates harmonic phase cancellation in the stethoscopes in which it is installed. The VSAVR device is currently included in all new 2006 Magna Fortis Metacardia LT (880 series), and 2006 Epicardia Vs (740 series) stethoscope models.
